How to check the rate of applying of prime coat at site

Prior to laying asphalt, we usually spray prime coat above the aggregate road base to seal the last layer of aggregate, and to prevent moisture from damaging the laid of asphalt. the prime coat should be sprayed at a specific rate. The rate of spraying the prime coat can vary as per the project specifications. The rate of applying prime coat can range from 0.6 Kg/m2 to 1Kg/m2 and it can vary from different countires.

Figure 1

Verifying the rate of application will be simply done by placing a square piece of plywood or filler board. We will measure the weight of the filler board weight before applying the prime coat and after applying the prime coat. The rate of application will be the difference in weight divided by the area of the filler board. Figure no:02 show a filler board placed during the spraying of the prime coat to measure the rate of application.
