Employer's personal

clause 2.3 states that the employer is obliged to ensure that the employers personal and employer contractor on site:
  • cooperate with contractor effort in providing appropriate opportunities for employer personal, other contractor employed by the employer and personal of any legal constituted public authorities in carrying out their works. contractor shall be entitled to a variation if any instruction causes the contractor to bear unforeseeable cost. services provided for this persons may include using of contractor equipment or temporary works or access arrangement. 
  • take actions to comply with all applicable safety regulations, take care for the safety of all personnel on site and take the necessary measure to keep the site clear from any obstruction to prevent endangering of these personnel.
  • take actions to ensure reasonable steps taken to protect the environment and limit damage, the nuisance of people property resulted from pollution and noise. also, the employer shall ensure emissions, surface discharge and effluent from contractor activities with the limit of specifications and laws.

Bridge Diaphragm

The main function of diaphragms is to provide a stiffening effect to deck slab in case bridge webs are not situated directly on top of bearings. Therefore, diaphragms may not be necessary in case bridge bearings are placed directly under the webs because loads in bridge decks can be directly transferred to the bearings.On the other hand, diaphragms also help to improve the load-sharing characteristics of bridges. Diaphragms also contribute to the provision of torsional restraint to the bridge deck. Diaphragm will be used also to resist stresses that occurs during the post-tensioning process. Chamfers for concrete structures

In general, the edges of concrete members are chamfered. Usually during the process of installing forms for a structural member such as pile cap, a chamfer a PVC chamfer as shown in figure no:1 installed at the edges of the structural members. These chamfers will form smooth slanted edges, as shown in figure no:2. The size of chamfers can be 20x20mm or more as shown on the contract drawing. The PVC chamfer fixed to forms by nails. We should ensure that the PVC chamfer fixed in their correct locations, and we should ensure that the PVC chamfer is straight and not moving up or down. Tunnel lining systems-Ribbed system

Ribbed supporting system has been used for many years to support tunnels. The ribbed supporting system is based on steel ribs supporting tunnels. The implementation of this system involves the installation of rolled steel sections around the circumference at specified spaces. The formation of gaps between the steel ribs and the ground is very common. These gaps should be suitably wedged to avoid excessive deformation of the ground. It is essential to ensure that the loads are distributed evenly by the steel support around the tunnel profile. The purpose of the shear key is to improve the bonding between concrete surfaces. The shear key is usually made at the construction joint location to enhance the adhesion between the old and new casted concrete. Construction joint is considered a weak point because the concrete is not casted at one time, in large structures where the concrete can not be casted for some members at one time, such as a slab. We usually divide the slab and cast it at many stages. The large quantities of concrete will make it impossible to cast the slab at one time. Therefore, the casting will be done in several stages. The location of the construction joint should be selected carefully. Flaky and elongated aggregates can adversely affect concrete. Flaky and elongated aggregates are difficult to compact. Therefore using flaky and elongated aggregates will reduce concrete workability, which required more amount of water to produce a workable mix. Increasing water content will reduce concrete strength and durability. Moreover, these aggregates are not robust, which leads to lowering concrete strength. Several tests are conducted to evaluate concrete quality and durability. Initial surface absorption tests are one of these tests. Increasing of concrete permeability will be associated with the ingress of aggressive liquid and gases such as chloride and sulfate. The ingress of chemicals such chloride will result in steel corrosion, and this, in turn, will reduce the durability of concrete. why do we use cranked rebar at rebar overlapping?

 Cranked bars are produced by slightly bending the reinforcement bar before the overlapping zone then straightening it at the overlapping zone, as shown in figure no:1. The main purpose of this practice is to reduce the congestion of reinforcement at the overlapping zone for structure members with a high amount of reinforcement. The use of crank bars will give flexibility in fixing and arranging reinforcement to reduce the congestion, which helps create a larger space between reinforcement rebars. The spacing between reinforcement rebars should be sufficient to allow smooth concrete placement. Small spacing of reinforcement rebar will work as a screen that will enable the concrete paste to pass through it and stop aggregate, which results in concrete segregation. Therefore, cranked rebars can be used to slightly reduce the congestion of reinforcement rebars and increase the spacing between rebars. Figure no:1

Repairing of concrete bulging

Improper designing and installation of formwork for a concrete member can result in concrete Bulging. During the placing and compacting of concrete, forms may deflect largely in the weak areas. The deflection of forms will cause concrete to expand at this location, and this known as concrete Bulging. Concrete Bulging will spoil the appearance of a concrete member. Therefore we should always ensure that the forms are appropriately installed, and it is sufficiently supported to resist the concrete during placing and compacting. Bulging should be repaired in case we couldn't avoid it. The solution of concrete Bulging, offset, or surface irregularities are surface grinding.
